A mainstay of the London art scene since his starry breakout in the creative explosion of the 1960’s, Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen) has drifted into a cluttered, self-imposed seclusion. His two estranged children enlist Lori (Michaela Coel), a young painter and sometime-forger, to pose as a prospective assistant and gain access to a fabled series of unfinished canvases that Julian has buried deep in his home studio, in a deceptive bid to secure an inheritance for themselves.

A fun Sunday film. This classic was Dolly Parton’s acting debut, starring alongside the fabulous Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin with Dabney Coleman as their boss.
Fonda plays Judy, the newly-dumped new hire at a big corporation housed in a city high rise. Tomlin plays the boss’s “right arm,” Violet, the sharp and hyper-competent fixer who makes the trains run on time, even as mediocre men are promoted above her.
And Parton plays Doralee, the boss’s lusted-after secretary. She drawls. She drives to work in a Chevy Luv, the tiniest pickup truck of the day. Oh, and she keeps a pistol in her purse.

Our Story
The HUB Film Club is a community cinema here at the HUB at Cowichan Station. Started in May of 2016, our aim is to bring people of all ages together over good films and of course, popcorn! Films screen on the fourth Friday of every month (except July & August) and we invite you to be a part of it.
We show an eclectic program of films; both classic and new, Canadian and international, for families and for adults. We have access to new theatrical releases approximately 4 months after their 1st run in professional theatres. All proceeds go to support the wonderful, volunteer-run community centre that is the HUB.

Never been a member? It’s is a great time to start a membership for the first time!
Ind. $30 / Family $55 (2 adults and up to 3 dependants).
Regular season films, in-person and online, will be free after the initial purchase of a membership. In each Membership Year there are 10 months of films - 2 films each month (1 film in-person & 1 film online), we take a break in July & August.
You can become a club member by clicking on the “Buy a Membership” button on this webpage, or purchase at the door at any in-person film (cash or cards accepted) or on our Eventbrite page when active.
All proceeds support the HUB at Cowichan Station, our non-profit community centre.
Cowichan Valley Documentary Film Festival
*There will not be a festival in 2026, look for it’s continuation in 2027!

2nd annual Cowichan Valley Documentary Film Festival in 2025
Look for it’s continuation in 2027.
The Film Festival happens in March of any given year. In 2025 we screened a wide variety of films, including local filmmaker Michelle Tremblay’s new film about community supported fishery in the Cowichan region and a film everyone should see, the award-winning Sugarcane. The festival concession provided delicious food and baking and it was great to see people having a good time together!
All of it would not be possible without the great attendance, the wonderful volunteers and our 2025 sponsors - Dinter Nursery, the Valley Voice, the National Film Board of Canada, and of course a place to hold the festival - The HUB at Cowichan Station.
We hope to see you in 2027 for more Docs on the big screen. Thank you for helping to make this community fundraising event a success!
