Vancouver Island Homesteading Fair

2025 Workshop Schedule
Saturday, September 6th

Admission to the fair is free and each workshop is pay-what-you-can $0-$10. Everyone is welcome!

This year’s fair will have workshops 10am-4pm, seed- and veggie-swap tables 10:30am-5pm, and we’ll finish the day with a community potluck dinner at 5pm. Bring your seeds, veggies and potluck dish to share! (Dishes can be stored in Hub fridges while you attend workshops).

From 10am-2pm our intrepid Vice-President Sarah will be exploring the forest, building forts and checking out the plants and animals, and she’s inviting kids to join her! Feel free to bring your kiddos to explore the forest while you attend workshops.

1:30pm-3pm - Drought-tolerant growing with Bernie


3pm-4pm - No-dig gardening, soil ecology and the food web with Christina

10am-11:30am - Sourdough with Toby

Intro to spinning with the Tzouhalem Spinners and Weavers


1pm-2pm - Eat Your Weeds with Amie


2pm-3pm - Traditional mending with Dorothea

10:30am-5pm - Seed-swap table, veggie share table


5pm - Community potluck dinner


3pm-4pm - Intro to pressure canning


3pm-4pm - Sashiko, boro and visible mending with Barbara

About the fair

The Homesteading Fair is an event sponsored by the Cowichan Station Area Association. It is held at the Hub at Cowichan Station at 2375 Koksilah Road in Duncan. The intention of the fair is to foster the exchange of knowledge, skills and experience in supporting a vibrant & sustainable island community.

There will be workshops all day followed by a community meal.

Everyone is welcome to this event.
